This bulletin presents the human rights situation in Burundi during the week of June 15 to 21, 2026. In this report, the Iteka League also looks at the political, security, economic, human rights, environmental, governance, and judicial context. It also analyzes specific cases of civil and political rights violations that occurred during this week.
The human rights violations observed and documented by the Iteka League are as follows: at least 8 people killed, including 6 bodies found dead, among which is the body of a 6-year-old child; 1 girl was a victim of rape, 2 cases of kidnapping, and 3 people were victims of arbitrary arrest and imprisonment. Among the victims, 3 girls and 1 woman were killed, and 1 girl was raped.
The main suspects of these violations are administrative agents, police officers, soldiers, and young Imbonerakure members of the ruling party, CNDD-FDD. Read more
