Weekly bulletin Iteka n’ijambo n°529

This bulletin presents the human rights situation in Burundi for the week of May 1 to 7, 2026. The Iteka League also looks at contexts including politics, governance, and the judiciary. It examines examples of violations of civil and political rights, as well as socio-economic and cultural rights for this week.

The violations reported by the Iteka League include at least 8 people killed, including 4 bodies found, 2 cases of domestic violence, 1 person kidnapped, and 1 victim of arbitrary arrest.

The suspects in these violations are government agents, police officers, and young Imbonerakure from the ruling party, the CNDD-FDD. Read more
