Weekly bulletin iteka n’Ijambo n°515

This bulletin presents the situation of human rights in Burundi during the week of February 23 to March 1, 2026. In this report, the Iteka League also examines the political, security, judicial, humanitarian, and governance context. It also analyzes illustrative cases of violations of civil and political rights as well as socio-economic and cultural rights that marked this week.

The human rights violations observed and documented by the Iteka League are as follows: at least 3 people were killed, all found dead, 3 victims of GBVs of which 2 were sexual violence victims, and 3 people were victims of kidnapping and/or went missing.

Among the victims, one woman was kidnapped, two minor girls were raped, and one woman was a victim of domestic violence.

The main suspects of these violations are administrative agents, police officers, military personnel, and young Imbonerakure members of the ruling party, the CNDD-FDD. Read more
