Burundi experienced the democratic trend in the 1990s which subsequently led to multiparty system. Three years later, following the general elections held in June 1993, the FRODEBU party won and its president Melchior Ndadaye was democratically elected. Three months later, Ligue Iteka, like the Burundian population, experienced the massacres of 1993 which followed the assassination of President Melchior Ndadaye. Read more
