This bulletin presents the human rights situation in Burundi during the week of August 3 to 9, 2026. In this report, the Iteka League also examines the political, judicial, security context, and governance. It also analyzes specific instances of violations of civil and political rights.
The human rights violations observed and documented by the Iteka League during this period are as follows: at least 12 people killed, including 8 found corpses and 1 victim of GBV. Among the victims are two women who were killed, including one woman killed by her husband.
Members of Imbonerakure from the ruling CNDD-FDD party and agents of the SNR are accused of being the main alleged perpetrators of these human rights violations. Police officers and administrative officials are shown as accomplices. Read more
