This bulletin presents the human rights situation in Burundi during the week of April 27 to May 3, 2026. In this report, the Iteka League also examines the judicial, security, and humanitarian context. It also analyzes illustrative cases of violations of civil and political rights that marked this week.
The human rights violations observed and documented by the Iteka League are as follows: at least 3 people killed, including 2 bodies found lifeless, 5 victims of sexual violence, including 4 girls under the age of 18. Regarding children’s rights, 11 child victims were recorded.
The main suspects of these violations are administrative agents, police officers, soldiers, and young Imbonerakure of the ruling party, CNDD-FDD. Read more
