This bulletin presents the human rights situation in Burundi during the week of March 9 to 15, 2026. In this report, the Iteka League also examines the security and judicial context. It also analyzes illustrative cases of violations of civil and political rights that marked this week.
The human rights violations observed and documented by the Iteka League are as follows: at least 12 people killed, including 7 bodies found lifeless and 1 person subjected to arbitrary arrest. Among the victims are 2 women and 1 girl killed.
The main suspects of these violations are administrative agents, police officers, military personnel, and young Imbonerakure members of the ruling party, the CNDD-FDD. Read more
