Weekly bulletin iteka n’ijambo n°513

This bulletin presents the situation of human rights in Burundi during the week of February 9 to 15, 2026. In this report, the Iteka League also examines the political, governance, security, judicial, and environmental context. It also analyzes illustrative cases of violations of civil and political rights, economic, social, and cultural rights, as well as category-specific rights, particularly children’s rights.

The allegations of human rights violations observed and documented by the Iteka League are as follows for this period: at least 11 people killed, including 9 found dead, 1 case of enforced disappearance, 1 victim of rape of a minor girl. Two cases of infanticide were reported during this reporting period.
Among the victims were two bodies of young girls, a woman, a child and fetuses killed and a minor raped.

Imbonerakure from the ruling CNDD-FDD party, police and administrative officials are accused of being the main alleged perpetrators of these human rights violations. Read more
