Weekly bulletin Iteka n’Ijambo n°495

This bulletin presents the human rights situation in Burundi during the week of October 6 to 12, 2025. In this report, the Iteka League also examines the political, judicial, and governance context. It also analyzes illustrative cases of violations of civil and political rights, economic, social, and cultural rights, as well as category-specific rights, particularly children’s rights.

The human rights violations observed and documented by the Iteka League are as follows: at least 5 people killed, all found dead, 4 victims of GBV including 1 victim of sexual and gender-based violence, and 4 victims of arbitrary arrests.

Among the victims, there is 1 woman killed, 3 minors raped, and 4 evangelists subjected to arbitrary arrests. A woman who was abducted and reported in last week’s bulletin has reappeared.

Imbonerakure from the ruling CNDD-FDD party, agents of the SNR, Police officers and administrative staff are accused of being the main alleged perpetrators of these human rights violations. Read more
