This bulletin presents the human rights situation in Burundi for the week of May 25 to 31, 2026. The Iteka League also examines contexts including political, governance, security, judicial, economic, and humanitarian aspects. It reviews examples of violations of civil and political rights, as well as socio-economic and cultural rights from this week.
The violations reported by the Iteka League include: at least 5 people killed, including 2 bodies found and 1 victim of domestic violence, 2 people abducted, and 1 rape victim. Among the victims, 2 women were killed and 1 was raped.
The suspects of these violations are government officials, police officers, military personnel, and young Imbonerakure from the ruling party, CNDD-FDD. Read more
