This bulletin presents the human rights situation in Burundi during the week of November 17 to 23, 2025. In this report, the Iteka League also examines the political, judicial, and economic context. It also analyzes illustrative cases of violations of civil and political rights, economic, social, and cultural rights.
The human rights violations observed and documented by Ligue Iteka during this period are as follows: at least 11 people killed, including 9 whose bodies were found, 3 victims of rape, one of whom was a minor under the age of 2, and 2 people tortured, including a journalist. Among the victims were a baby and his mother who were killed, and a newborn baby killed by his mother.
Imbonerakure members of the ruling CNDD-FDD party, SNR agents, police officers, and administrators are accused of being the main alleged perpetrators of these human rights violations. Read more
