This bulletin presents the human rights situation in Burundi during the week of October 13 to 19, 2025. In this report, the Iteka League also examines the political and judicial context and governance. It also analyzes illustrative cases of violations of civil and political rights, economic, social, and cultural rights.
The human rights violations observed and documented by Ligue Iteka are as follows: at least 15 people killed, 5 people found dead, 1 person kidnapped, 1 person tortured, 6 victims of gender-based violence (GBV), including 4 victims of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), among whom are 3 minors, and 4 victims of arbitrary arrests.
Among the victims is a CDP party activist who was abducted and others who were apprehended for questioning and then held in custody for long hours.
Imbonerakure members of the ruling CNDD-FDD party, SNR agents, police officers, and administrators are accused of being the main alleged perpetrators of these human rights violations. Read more
