This bulletin provides an overview of the human rights situation in Burundi during the week of 16-22 June 2025. The period was marked by an easing of political tensions, including the celebration of victory by members of the ruling CNDD-FDD party.
The human rights violations observed and recorded by Ligue Iteka are as follows:
At least 7 people were killed, including 2 women. These include the bodies of 2 youths killed on the border between Burundi and Rwanda for coffee trafficking; 1 person abducted near SNR office; and 1 person tortured. Nine people were victims of SGBV. Among the victims were 3 young girls abused in schools. Ligue Iteka also recorded 1 person, a member of CNL, who was harassed.
The main alleged perpetrators of these violations are administrative officials, police officers, and young Imbonerakure affiliated with the ruling CNDD-FDD party. Read more
