Thus, the human rights situation has deteriorated alarmingly: at least 72 people were killed, of whom 40 bodies were recovered; among those killed, 51 were men and 21 were women. Among the victims, 35 suffered gender-based violence, including 24 cases of sexual violence. Of those affected by gender-based violence, 28 were women and 7 were men. Other statistics include 10 victims of torture, 3 of whom were women; 13 people who were abducted or reported missing, 2 of whom were women; and 6 who were arbitrarily arrested.<\/p>\n
Although the political affiliation of the majority of the victims is unknown, it should be noted that members of political parties were not spared, including 12 victims from the ruling CNDD-FDD party, 1 victim from the CNL, and 1 from FRODEBU.<\/p>\n
Accusations have also been leveled against members of the Imbonerakure militia, administrative officials, members of the SNR, and police officers, who are considered the main perpetrators of the reported human rights violations and murders.
