This bulletin presents the situation of human rights in Burundi during the week of May 4 to 10, 2026. In this report, the Iteka League also examines the political, security, judicial, economic, governance, and environmental context. It also analyzes illustrative cases of violations of civil and political rights that marked this week.<\/p>\n
The human rights violations observed and documented by the Iteka League are as follows: 2 homicides, both bodies found, and 3 cases of infanticide, including one forced abortion without the mother’s consent, 3 victims of sexual violence, all girls under 18, and 1 case of domestic violence, 1 person kidnapped, 2 people subjected to inhuman treatment, including one child, and 1 case of arbitrary arrest and detention.<\/p>\n
The main suspects of these violations are administrative officers, police, military personnel, and young Imbonerakure of the ruling party, the CNDD-FDD.
