This bulletin presents an overview of the human rights situation in Burundi for the week of August 17-23, 2026. In this report, the Iteka League also assesses the security, political, and governance context. It provides an analysis of illustrative incidents of civil and political rights violations that occurred during this period.<\/p>\n
The human rights violations observed and documented by the Iteka League are as follows: at least six people were killed, including two bodies found and three cases of infanticide, as well as two cases of sexual violence, one person subjected to torture, and one arbitrary arrest and detention.<\/p>\n
The main suspects in these violations are administrative officials, police officers, intelligence agents, and Imbonerakure youth associated with the ruling party, the CNDD-FDD.
