This bulletin presents the human rights situation in Burundi during the week of August 3 to 9, 2026. In this report, the Iteka League also examines the political, judicial, security context, and governance. It also analyzes specific instances of violations of civil and political rights.<\/p>\n
The human rights violations observed and documented by the Iteka League during this period are as follows: at least 12 people killed, including 8 found corpses and 1 victim of GBV. Among the victims are two women who were killed, including one woman killed by her husband.<\/p>\n
Members of Imbonerakure from the ruling CNDD-FDD party and agents of the SNR are accused of being the main alleged perpetrators of these human rights violations. Police officers and administrative officials are shown as accomplices.
